WINTER TRAINING FOR EVERYONE (Juniors, Seniors, Masters, Parents)
This is from Paul Fidow - our new club coach
"Our first session is at 3pm on Sunday 22nd May at the Rapaki stairs on Centaurus Rd. This is a lighter more aerobic session than many of the other stair runs and I generally set a target of 30-40min of sustained effort for the first attempt. Please allow around an hour all up for the session, to provide time for warm up and warm down. Each circuit takes around 4-5minutes so you should be doing 6-10 in that time frame. This will give me a good gauge on your current fitness levels, and a starting point for what we do next. Can you please make sure that you are warmed up and ready to go at 3pm.
We will meet at the bottom of the stairs on Centaurus Road. Click here for a map. The stairs are the dotted line between Centaurus Rd and Glenelg Spur. Please refer to our facebook page for any updates closer to the time.
See you there.
Sunday, 29th May 11.30am at the club rooms. We need to transfer all our craft into storage. Also we are moving all the contents of the club rooms into storage. We will need trailers etc for a load to the dump and for moving gear to compound. The more help we get, the quicker this will get done. Please contact Richard Newbold if you have any questions or can confirm you can help 027 2219441.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SWIMMING
Swimming is continuing all through winter.
Just a reminder we have lanes booked at Graham Condon every Wednesday night from 7 - 8.30. The younger swimmers start at 7 and a faster session is at 7.45. The equipment required for pool champs is there every week. Make sure you are practicing the events you want to compete in for pool champs.
CHRISTCHURCH POOL CHAMPS
This is the first time in 7 years the pool champs have been held in Christchurch. This year's event will be held at Jellie Park on Sunday 12 June beginning at 8.30am. It will run for the full day.
The event is open to all club members (from our Under 8's and up) and, for adults, you don't have to be a lifeguard to compete. Perhaps some of our fantastic parents would like to have a wee swim too. Or there is always the line throw if you don't want to get wet.
Registrations must be in by Thursday 2nd June and once you enter you will be entered in all events for your age group. Team's events will be made up from this. We need to have 2 team managers assigned from the club. If there are any parents who would like to assist with this role or you wish to enter, please contact Nicki firstname.lastname@example.org. Parents will also be required on the day as time keepers and marshals.
SOUTHERN POOL CHAMPS
Dunedin hosts this event in the July school holidays. It will be run over the weekend of16 & 17 July and is held at Moana Pool. The event is for Under 10 and up athletes. It would be fantastic to see a team entered to compete. It is definitely the next level of competition from our Christchurch pool champs. To be able to get accommodation booked please let Nicki know if you are thinking about going. It isn't a commitment at this stage but so we can get team accommodation. Again team managers will be required and parents to assist with time keeping on the day. Registrations will open around late June for this but accommodation will need to be booked well ahead. Please contact Nicki email@example.com.
NATIONAL POOL CHAMPS
This is the elite completion for Pool champs held in Auckland from 7 - 9 October. Should the club decide to send a team to this event it will be selected on placings achieved at both Canterbury and Southern Pool Champs.
CANTERBURY AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE NIGHT
Saturday 11 June 2016
Mashina Lounge - Peterborough / Durham St Cnr
All ages welcome 6:30pm
Tickets: $15 - Available from Monday 23rd May.
Please contact your club or the SLSNZ Office. Come and celebrate Canterbury's top lifeguards, volunteers and sports people at this seasons awards of excellence. This is a great opportunity for members to come together to recognise outstanding achievement of our Christchurch and Tasman clubs and members. The evening will include presentations, nibbles and drink specials.
Although its winter, the Pool champs are coming up so if you need new togs, swim caps or clothing orders, text Kaylene 0274298050. Please note that polos & hoodies are not kept in stock, and there is a two-three week delivery time.
We still have plenty of 'old style' togs in stock. These are $20 pair or $30 for two pairs. Although they can't be worn at competitions, they are perfect (and cheap) as training togs.
COMMITTEE POSITIONS BECOMING VACANT
Our AGM is coming up soon. There are 4 positions vacant on the committee. This is a great opportunity to become part of an innovative and growing club. We are in the process of the rebuild of our current facility and being part of the committee is a great way to help the club through this process. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com.
Rarangi Surf Club host this competition over Canterbury Anniversary Weekend every year. This year's comp will be held on Saturday 12 November. I know it's a wee way away but it comes around pretty quickly. As a club we camp at Whites Bay and arrive on the Thursday or Friday (Show Day) with the comp being on Saturday and travel home on Sunday. There has been in the past around 50 from Spencer Park attend. It's a great opportunity to start the season on some great water to get the confidence up and have a go on larger boards than would be possible in our surf. There is no definite commitment required for this one yet but just a heads up to know it's coming.
Jim Wellacott is coordinating masters to train and hopefully compete at Nationals in Christchurch next year. This is the first year in a long time that Senior and Masters Nationals have been held in Christchurch, so it's a great chance to compete for our club. We are also hoping to compete at World masters Games in Auckland in April 2016. If you are interested in being a part of any of this, please send Jim a text 0274723353 or Linda 0274086276. Everyone is welcome.
